Although 2020 has brought many challenges, Authors Aloud UK has continued working throughout the year and we have been delighted with the early success of Authors Online – the new virtual author visit arm of our business. We’ve had a large number of enquiries from schools keen on bringing an author into their classroom to talk to students about their books and inspire them with their own writing. Indeed one of the unexpected upsides of Covid-19 has been the ability to work with small rural schools who wouldn’t normally have been able to afford to invite an author to visit them. We’ve also had the pleasure of working with schools in Italy, India and the Middle East during the past couple of months.
Publishers have continued to publish a host of wonderful books this year and we have been delighted to curate a variety of online launch events and virtual school tours working with publishers, booksellers, authors and schools throughout the UK.
Of course virtual visits aren’t the same as having an author in your school and seeing the enthusiasm and connection they make with your students. We can’t WAIT until this is possible again but in the meantime, ‘virtual’ visits can be great fun and we will be adding to the range of authors now offering online sessions and we’re convinced that having a ‘virtual’ author visit will remain a useful part of school learning for years to come.
We’d like to send out a big thank you to all those schools, libraries, publishers and booksellers, that we’ve worked with over the past 8 years and an even BIGGER thank you to the wonderful array of authors, illustrators, poets and storytellers that are part of the Authors Aloud UK family. Have a wonderful Christmas break – and see you in 2021!
