Charlotte Firmin has been involved in the ‘Tales’ series of projects in Canterbury, Herne Bay and Whitstable which have been facilitated by Canterbury City Council over the past 2 ½ years.
Three projects (producing 6 published tales in each project) engaged over 240 young people who found literacy difficult or uninteresting into creative writing and illustration. The outcome set on all three projects was to raise the self esteem of young people with regards to creative writing, literature and illustration. All three projects have achieved this outcome producing stories with a local flavor which have been published, with the finished work being stored in the British Library and local libraries
Young people have been engaged from:
• Primary Schools, High Schools, Outside of mainstream Education, children in Care, Neighborhood Centres, Community Centres and Armed Forces centres.
Charlotte has shown an ability to engage young people with low attention, special needs and different backgrounds into creative participation which has been a surprise for the leaders of the groups involved. Charlotte is always well prepared, is flexible and has great energy. I recommend Charlotte to any group or organizations who want to engage and support people.
