Type of Artist:
I do interactive talks, story making workshops and readings as well as custom sessions.
My interactive talks involve audience participation, cloaks, drawing and occasional bursts of dance. I’ll talk the children through the process of story making and we’ll create worlds together. I also do a version of my interactive talk where we create a spell together, which requires an adult assistant, such as a willing teacher or parent, to pretend to be a kidnapped wizard – the spell we’ll make up together is to rescue the wizard.
In my story and comic-making workshops, I talk the children through the process of a story or a comic, step by step, and they’ll create as we go. For younger children/children without strong writing skills, I also do drawing workshops, including drawing themselves into a portal book (a book that you can travel through).
7-10 year olds, Years 3-5
Max for workshops: 35, no max for interactive talks or readings
3 per day, I find one assembly and 2 workshops works well.
45 mins plus questions for an interactive talk plus signing, 30 mins plus Q and A for a reading (happy to do longer if they think the kids have the attention span!), 45 mins for a workshop plus time for signing.
Anywhere if overnight expenses/travel expenses are met and with enough notice. But I’ll have more availability for London-based events or events within an hour of London.

"Louie Stowell's visit was a fabulous high energy, creative and imaginative experience for our children. From a brilliant audience-participating potion -making assembly to creative workshops that encouraged the children to use their own ideas creating magical creatures and in which Louie spent time with every child in class, offering tips and help. Excellent and fully inclusive activities that all our children could be involved in. Louie really made our children feel special in her book signing session too and took time to chat and answer questions about becoming an author and all her inspirations (no matter how odd they were!). Fabulous day that we all thoroughly enjoyed!"
Springwood Heath Primary School Jennifer Caddick
“Thank you so much for Louie’s visit! Louie was really engaging. She tailored her workshops so well to each age group that they were all motivated and inspired. There were lots and lots of smiles! We have all enjoyed finishing the book. Please come back and see us sometime!”
Grasmere CE VE Primary School Johanna Goode, Head Teacher
“The event was fantastic. The children really enjoyed it and Louie was brilliant at relating to the children. They were thrilled to hear her read some of her book, and were inspired by her workshop. Thank you so much to Louie. This meant a lot to our children!”
St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School, Barnet Diana Whyatt
“Louie has a very natural way of engaging the pupils she speaks to. Her creative writing workshop was perfectly pitched and as she took our students through each stage of creating their own fantasy character, she had them eating out of the palm of her hand!”
Graveney School, Wandsworth Samantha-Louise Hayden, Deputy Head of KS3
“They loved it! The boys brought in their copies of “The Dragon in the Library” to the lesson the next day and they were also so excited to show me that they had be signed. They were amazed by the fact that Louie had signed them for them specifically!”
Victoria Watkins, Teacher
“All of the staff and children of our school loved having Louie in school for the day. She provided real inspiration to all children to improve their writing and instilled a real love of creating stories and characters. The workshops and assembly were full of humour, purpose and thoroughly enjoyed by all.”
Grange Primary Academy, Kettering Christopher Latimer, Head Teacher
I’m very happy to cater to specific requests from teachers eg covering a particular topic area that they’re studying. I appreciate any information I can get in advance about the school – eg if there’s a high proportion of children with additional needs, this is useful for me when planning the session, as I’d usually get kids to come up to the front so knowing mobility issues in advance is handy, or any kids who need a particular type of interaction/extra support.
