We had the pleasure of hosting a number of outstanding events with Steve. The events were dynamic and very entertaining, resulting in a fantastic response from all the children (and teachers) and excellent book-sales. Steve is a very pleasant and easy man with whom to work.
Silverdell Bookshop
Steve does brilliant events. He talks to the kids about larger concepts around his book. Genetic engineering, superpowers, responsibility of those powers. He has great rapport with kids and loves to talk about his love of scifi and horror. I would say his talk is appropriate for students from Yr7-9. Kids most definitely enjoyed it.
Ian Lamb, Bloomsbury Children's Books
Steve’s event was very interactive – which is so important for children of this age – with lots of contemporary culture references to films, etc question-and-answer sessions for the audience and readings. He also had an audiovisual element to his talk as he played the Changeling video we made at MCB, showed film stills, etc.
Steve has a real enthusiasm for reading and writing and that comes across in his event – it’s infectious. And he’s very good at communicating with the last year in Primary/early Secondary school age group. He is a real perfectionist and pushed himself hard – always gives 100% - so feedback is important to him, as is expectation management, I think. He can handle any event scenario – literary festivals, bookshop events, school events, library events, etc.
