A Selection of Mark's Books

Mark Lowery

Type of Artist:

Author

I give a fun, interactive talk about reading, writing and books.

As a trained teacher with 16 years of experience, I’m also comfortable leading writing workshops and lessons. In my capacity as literacy co-ordinator at a primary school, I have delivered creative writing INSET training. In the past I have compered quizzes and awards ceremonies.

Over the last few years I’ve developed a talk which I believe is fast-paced, engaging and most importantly fun. Although it carries a serious message, it does so in a way that captures students’ attention.

Details

Preferred age range:

I feel comfortable talking to audiences of any age.
However, my first two books are aimed at the 10-14 age group and my next book is aimed towards 8-12 year olds. Therefore I think my school talks are best suited to Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils (although children as young as Year 2 have enjoyed them in the past). I have given talks to adults in universities.

Testimonials:

Mark went down a storm! We had two sessions - first of all he spent a good hour in the main hall with all our Year 7s (no mean feat as we have 330 children in year 7) and then in the afternoon he conducted another workshop-type session with some year 6s from one of our feeder schools. In between the two presentations he held a question-and-answer session with some of the Year 7s and during our lunch break he chatted to pupils in the library and signed copies of his books. He really gave us a LOT of his time.
His presentation style is brilliant. It is quite apparent that he is an experienced teacher as he is totally unfazed by large numbers of children or daft/inappropriate/silly questions. He fielded all the questions superbly and managed the large numbers really well. Much of his presentation has an element of slapstick and his delivery is akin to a stand-up comedian - all of this went down really well with the children. “Super. Entertaining, high energy but with a serious message about writing.”
- DW – Stewart’s Melville, Edinburgh

“Everyone enjoyed it”
– DE – Blatchington Mill, Brighton

“A wonderful day… The pupils have been talking about it ever since.”
– LS – Priory Middle, Beds.

“A great session, the students got a lot out of it”
– SI – Hove Park, Brighton

“…brilliant… great to see the students so engaged, enjoying themselves and producing such imaginative work. They are still buzzing this morning with all they did!
– MR – Homewood School, Ashford
