Type of Artist:
Andy Seed specialises in encouraging children to read for pleasure with a particular emphasis on boys and reluctant readers.
Andy is the winner of the 2015 Blue Peter Book Award and a former primary school teacher who is an inspirational performer/speaker in schools with a host of great ideas to get children reading, writing and performing.
Andy can offer the following:
1. Fun, interactive sessions which get children excited about books and reading.
2. Inspiring presentations and workshops which give an insight into how authors work and why being a writer is the best job in the world (with Q&A).
3. Interactive poetry sessions for younger children
4. Gripping storytelling to show where ideas come from.
5. Talks to parents/carers on how to encourage children to read. These can be in school or after school and have been very effective in the past, particularly in areas where it is difficult to engage parents. I also have an effective strategy to ensure lots of parents turn up to the meeting!
Ages 5-11, although I also work with ages 12 and 13 in secondary schools.

‘Andy's visit last week was an absolute treat! The children were all totally engrossed, listening to Andy relay interesting facts about the wild and wonderful creatures that feature in his factual books. Andy was able to capture the children's interest from Years 3 - 6 and with the promise of the sought after author's moustache pencil, he had them eating out of the palm of his hand!! Thanks again Andy!’
Backwell C of E Junior School, Backwell, Bristol
‘Thank you SO much for your visit this week. It was everything we hoped for and more. The children were truly inspired, demonstrated by the number buying books. Our librarian said she had more children in the library yesterday than she had ever had before, including one who says he never reads!’
Headteacher, Weston Super Mare 2017
'Brilliant start to the celebrations in school for World Book Day ... Andy was just as good with all the classes and managed to keep it interactive even when he worked with 2 classes at a time!'
English co-ordinator, Scholes J&I School
‘Oh my goodness, what a truly brilliant day we have had. There is definitely a BUZZ about books after our author visit. Thankyou @andyseedauthor.’
Tracey Needham, Sacred Heart Primary 2017
‘I really can't thank you enough, you have inspired our children more than I could have ever imagined.’
Laura Exley, Churchfield Primary School
‘I wanted to say thank you for a wonderful day last week. The children and staff had such an amazing day and many children (& staff) were left feeling inspired to read & write. The workshops received fantastic feedback and the day was a huge success. Thank you.’
Claire Wesley, St Mary's Primary, Richmond
I am now offering a talk to parents & carers on how to encourage children to read as part of my author visits. This can be in school time or after school and has been extremely successful in engaging parents on recent visits, particularly in areas where there are large numbers of reluctant readers and homes with few books. I have also developed a very effective strategy for ensuring that good numbers of parents attend. The 20-minute talk covers why reading is important (referencing research) and five key ways to encourage reading for both KS1 and KS2.
