Type of Artist:
1. Interactive school assemblies which inspire children to develop a love of reading
2. Workshops to get children thinking, writing and learning about the world
3. Readings and Q&As to show younger children the benefits of and enjoyment from reading and writing
Ben is able to turn any school into Football School by using football to teach children about geography, maths, music, English and drama - all to inspire them to develop a love of reading and a curiosity about the world. Ben’s energetic assemblies include singing, dancing, goal celebrations, quizzes, and learning through football. Ben’s real passion is literacy, and by using football to engage pupils, he explains the value of reading, writing, making mistakes and being part of a team. His interactive workshops use football to learn about philosophy, design and debating, and they can kick-start difficult conversations around justice, equality, activism and geopolitics. Even pupils who don’t love football are inspired by Football School - everyone wants to turn their school into Football School for a day!
Ideal age-group is KS2, Years 3-6.
Have also worked with Years 7-8, mainly reluctant readers as intervention work to help them get on track.

‘One of the best workshops I've had the privilege to be part of (and I've worked here for two decades now!). Ben was so engaging and animated and kept that high-spirited momentum flowing all day. Brilliant!’
Lorraine Collins, City of London Academy Highgate Hill
‘The children and adults are still talking about Ben’s visit. It has really enthused them, not just about football but about reading and writing - especially the reluctant ones. Thank you so much!’
Rachel Copsey, Co-Headteacher, Walton Oak Primary School
