Online talk, storytelling and drawing with much participation
My workshops are aimed at getting children excited about books. I show how a picture book is created from the initial spark of an idea to the published book on the shelf (and sometimes even beyond, as with Dylan’s Playtime Adventures becoming a major Cbeebies animated series). I talk about how I come up with ideas for books and how I draw and paint the pictures. I do some drawing on a flip chart and, with the children's help, create a brand new animal picture book character. The children then make up their own characters. I’ll read a story or two that I've illustrated or written (with much participation)! And, who knows, my friend Gerald the giraffe might even come out to dance at the end!

I have booked Guy Parker Rees many times for Brighton Festival and he never disappoints. He has a lovely calm manner, whether reading stories, chatting with the children about stories and illustration, or drawing. There is always a good level of interaction and participation - he encourages creativity, making drawing a fun and inclusive activity for everyone. Guy’s engaging events inspire imagination and a love of stories and pictures. I highly recommend him for in-person or online events.
Hilary Cooke, Children’s Literature Producer, Brighton Festival
The sessions with the children were great - a perfect mix of listening, drawing and actively joining in. It was lovely to see so many children going home with a book and being excited to share the stories at home.
Caroline Prince, Portsmouth School Library Service Manager
We have no hesitation in heartily recommending GUY PARKER-REES for school events, bookshop events and festival events. We have worked with Guy many times over the years: he has visited our shop to lead fantastic children’s events and we’ve welcomed him to The Steyning Festival as one of the authors participating in a ‘Draw-Off’ show.

Guy runs a very engaging event that is always informative and interactive. Children love hearing about his stories and taking part in the drawing and he always promotes a love of books.
