The Boy with the Tiger’s Heart
The Dog, Ray (Winner of the 2016 Hull Book Award)
Linda Coggin visited our school on 3/3/15 to celebrate children’s Book Week and the publication of her book, THE BOY WITH THE TIGER’S HEART, with the children.
She spoke to approximately 90 Key Stage One children for an hour, then she did separate 40 minute sessions with years 4, 5 and 6. She also gave us some extra time at the end to be interviewed by several children for articles they were writing for the school magazine and website.
She was able to adjust her talk to suit all these age groups, and she had prepared interesting slides and anecdotes, which made the sessions fun and interesting.
She is confident on stage with large groups- and she rounded each session off with a magic trick which left us all mystified but wanting more!
I highly recommend Linda as a guest author.

Linda has been writing for many years, mostly poetry, but more recently has turned her talents towards writing for children. Her first book, THE BOY WITH THE TIGER’S HEART, received high praise and her second, THE DOG, RAY, was published last month.
Linda is a good performer in schools. No doubt having been an actress in an earlier incarnation helps a great deal. She delivers a great deal in a short time and in a lively, engaging manner.
She also listens to the comments that children make and answers their questions without being patronising - an accomplishment in itself.
In addition to the above Linda’s writing and her work in schools raise contemporary moral issues that face us as humans living in a world that we not only have to share with each other but also with other living creatures. Children’s awareness expands as a result and the audience leaves buzzing with ideas and yet more questions.
There are some writers who produce terrific work but find themselves at a loss when faced with their audience, especially when they are children. Linda manages to be terrific at both.
