Type of Artist:
Talks (including a reading)
“The Power of Stories” – discussing our responsibilities as both consumers and creators of stories
“Truth or Dare” – discussing the inspiration behind the title and the relationship between truth, honesty and fiction
“Better Friends” – the pressures created by always being compared to our peers and how we can combat this
“Giant Days” – how to adapt a comic into a novel and how to cope with the first term of university
Workshops (using my own books to supplement teaching points):
Character development (both higher and lower sessions offered)
Improving dialogue
Letters to ourselves (for v. reluctant students)
Response to a picture workshop on Section B of the Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing AQA English Language GCSE paper
All my talks are suitable for audiences aged 11+
Lower ability character development workshop suitable for 11+
All other workshops suitable for 13+
Talks (best suited to a big audience in a school hall): 50-300+ Workshops: maximum of 30
No limit, but any booking must include a minimum of 1 x talk to a larger-than class size audience
All my sessions have been designed to adapt to the time I’m given, but as rough guides:
Talks last approximately 45 minutes, although can comfortably go to 60 minutes.
Workshops can be as short as 40 minutes, or last as long as 90 minutes.
Anywhere, schedule allowing. All travel and accommodation costs are passed on to the school and I encourage schools further away from London to co-ordinate with other schools in that area so I visit 2 x schools in two days and the two schools share the cost.
I have a car and fuel is charged at cost using an online fuel calculator; wherever possible I prefer to use the train, though.
