Type of Artist:
Full school assemblies, talks, readings, drawing, Character Invention, storyboards, books and large artwork workshops and activities.
Stephen talks about his love of drawing and painting and how he became and illustrator and author. He talks about what inspired him when he was very young and how he started to create his own characters and stories. He then shows the process of how he makes a book from start to finish and shows original drawings and artwork from books, posters, magazines, jigsaws and greetings cards.
Stephen delivers many workshops for different age groups which are based around Character Invention, Storyboards and Books. This is a chance for the children to gain confidence in creating original fun characters and story ideas which are a starting point for writing.

'Stephen is not just an amazing illustrator, but a natural teacher as well. He inspired all the children at our school to produce the very best work they could during his visit. Stephen taught the pupils that, with hard-work, determination and a love of what you do, anyone can become a great artist, illustrator or story-teller.’ Martin Thompson - St Paul’s Primary School, York - March 2017.
‘Frodsham Manor House were delighted that Stephen was able to accept our invitation to work with us on a collaboration to celebrate the school being an expert centre for Global Learning. Stephen led an assembly for the whole school about his life as an illustrator and raised awareness of stories and places around the world as well as Fair Trade.
He then worked confidently with the children throughout the day and kept them engaged in their activities providing praise and encouragement with a great sense of humour along the way.
Stephen then created a large outdoor mural based on One World which incorporated the work of the children, enhanced by his own painting. The pupils and staff are all delighted with the end product which will remind us of our role in developing global citizens for years to come. Stephen has been approachable and adaptable throughout the project and we happily recommend him to other schools.
Naomi Anstice, Assistant Headteacher
