Type of Artist:
Fun interactive story time and draw-along sessions for KS1-KS2
Fun interactive story building sessions for KS3 and up
Inspiring talk on storytelling, art and/or colourblindness for all ages
Reception: In this short and simple 20-40 minute session I read at least two Mr Panda books and introduce the children to Mr Panda (a plush toy). The Mr Panda books teach manners and good hygiene in an amusing and simple way that’s easy for young children to understand. I also show the class how I draw Mr Panda and his animal friends.
KS1: For KS1 pupils I read at least two of my books, usually a Mr Panda or Queen’s Hat book. The readings are fun and interactive and class participation is encouraged. The school can choose which of my books they would like me to focus on. Each session includes a draw-along and Q&A.
KS2: For KS2 pupils I present several of my books, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and You Can before delivering a fun and interactive story-building or character-building workshop. I also talk a little about being colour-blind and hope to inspire children to read and express themselves creatively through art and writing. The session ends with a short Q&A.
KS3 and up: For KS3 and up I deliver a fun art and story building activity to encourage them to find creative ways to express themselves. I talk about my journey towards becoming an author and illustrator and touch on my colour-blindness. By the end of this workshop each pupil will have created their own character and story synopsis. The session ends with a short Q&A.

“THANK YOU for your visit yesterday. You managed to hold 60 children's interest, engage them with reading your stories and inspire them with the facts you shared, both about the process of becoming/being an author/illustrator, but mostly with your personal tales. When the children came in this morning, many of them were still talking to their friends about the fact that "I can't believe he's colour blind and he still became an author" or "When Mr Bass goes on about being resilient and overcoming barriers, that's what he means". In a short session, you gave our children clear examples of why we encourage them to persevere and showed them that anything is possible if you aim high and work hard. Our children got so much from your visit, so a huge THANK YOU from us.”
