Talks for teenagers and also for primary schools

For teenagers:
It's not about the burqa.
A one hour session suitable for y10, 11 and 6th formers.
Titled: A British Girl's Aspirations and Ambition.
Sufiya will discuss the challenges she faced as a feminist both in her Muslim community as well as wider British society. She will refer to her previous careers working as a researcher in the Houses of Parliament and in the corporate world of advertising.
This talk ties in with Sufiya's girls rights activism and will include a Q&A segment.

2. Primary schools.
Half day visit includes:
45 minute assembly
1 hour creative writing workshop

Full day includes:
45 minute assembly
2 (1hr) creative writing workshop
30 minute Q&A session with any size or age.
Creative writing options for years 2-6:
1. Let's make this story rhyme
2. Let's plot our own end to the story
3. Let's plan a short story


Talks and Workshops for Secondary and Primary aged students



For Years 5-8 - One hour author talk - The Spy & the Suffragette.
Sufiya will base this talk around her books; Noor-Un-Nissa Inayat Khan and Princess Sophia Duleep Singh. Students will hear about her childhood dream to become an author, and how she achieved this via previous careers in advertising and in the Houses of Parliament. Sufiya will introduce students to both books explaining Churchill and Noor’s mission to defeat the enemy in WW2 and Princess Sophia’s role in the Suffragette movement. There’s an opportunity for dressing up with props and there will be plenty of time for questions from students.

For Years 9-6th Form - A British Girl’s Aspirations and Ambition
Sufiya will discuss the challenges she faced as a feminist both in her Muslim community as well as in wider British Scodiety. She will refer to her previous careers working as a researcher in the Houses of Parliament and in advertising. She will talk about her award-winning book, Secrets of the Henna Girl and its topics of bullying and forced marriage. This talk ties in with Sufiya’s activism on behalf of girls’ rights and will include plenty of time for questions from students.

Preferred age range:

Primary and secondary up to 6th form


No of sessions per day:

Can deliver a maximum of 4 sessions per day.


Session Length:

Entire session is 45 minutes, plus 10-15 minutes for book signing.


Areas prepared to travel to:

Sufiya lives in London but is willing to travel nationally if expenses are covered.
